THE URBAN COMPANY- Vidushri Bagri
THE URBAN
COMPANY
Today I am going to write about three people who had a lot of passion
and through their hard work, they made a million-dollar company. Abhiraj Singh
Bhal, Raghav Chandra, Varun Khaitan are the co-founders of Urban Company.
Abhiraj and Varun were working in a Boston consulting firm in the United
States of America. However, they always wanted to start a venture of their own
and so with a lot of courage and fire burning in their eyes, they left their
jobs and came back to India. On the other hand, Raghav Chandra was working in
Twitter, and came back to India almost at the same time to learn about
entrepreneurship. They started their individual ventures and were not
successful.
In the end, the three of them joined hands to form a company called
Urban Clap (now known as Urban Company) with an investment of just 10 lakh
rupees. They started with just beauty services and saw the rapid expansion of
the company. Upon seeing the growth of the company, in the year 2016 they
included other services like home cleaning, electronics repair and so on. At
present they can proudly say that Urban Company is one of the largest online
home service platforms in the world. In India, it is available in 14 cities. It
is extremely famous in India and UAE but has also expanded its customer base to
countries like Singapore and Australia. In January 2020, it had changed its
name from Urban Clap to Urban Company to have a globally accepted brand name.
Recently it announced its 6 sub brands:
(2) Urban Spa
(3) Urban Painting
(4) Urban Grooming
(5) Urban Repairs
(6) Urban Cleaning
They received a major boost in their business during the lockdown
period. They saw and grabbed the opportunity and made major technological
changes in the company to provide safer and quicker services to people. The
profit percentage was increased by 30% during that period.
I hope you got some idea about the Urban Company
and how it started from the scratch to become a unicorn company. Thank
you.
